As salaamu alaiki, inshallah, all is well with you and your family.
Here are the services provided by the Essential Living For Muslim Women Breast Health Initiative
Breast health education: Breast cancer facts, how to perform self breast exams, importance of getting mammograms,
breast anatomy, normal and abnormal breast conditions. Educational sessions are provided by trained, ethnically diverse
female community health advisors.
Free clinical breast examinations by Muslim female nurse practitioner.
Referrals to providers we contract with for free mammograms/diagnostic breast services or referrals to other organizations
(ie. health departments) for breast health services.
Case management of any women we provide mammography/breast health services for.
Though services were designed to meet the cultural needs of Muslim women, they are open to all women provide they meet
our clinical criteria:
--Over puberty for clinical breast exams
--40 and over for screening mammograms (no problems) or strong family history
of breast cancer if under 40 (ie. mother/sister had breast cancer under age 50)
--Puberty and over, if there is a known
or suspected breast problem.
We can only pay for mammograms, etc for women who are not insured or whose insurance will not cover those services. We
can make referrals for women who have insurance.
We would be glad to come to your facility to perform the education and exams or another setting if preferred. We
have gone to several masajid and a couple of private homes for "Pink Teas".
Inshallah, our next clinical breast exam day at Masjid An Nur will be in September.
